Keomontree Duangbupha began working with antique Lao textiles 20 years ago, and since that time he has become a recognized leader in promoting the appreciation and preservation of this rich weaving tradition.  In addition to collecting and studying antique pieces, he has also created a business producing textiles based on traditional materials, patterns and techniques.

His focus is on preservation and celebration of traditional Lao culture.  In his production, he strives to provide a fair market to local indigenous weavers by bringing work to their native environment, preserving centuries-old traditions and techniques of regional designs, and promoting the use of natural materials and dyes in his designs and creations.  He has recently joined Puang Champa House as Managing Director in Luang Prabang, Laos, a center for cultural preservation teaching traditional crafts, music, and dance. He is also lending his talent as designer to reproduce authentic dance costumes for performers.  Most importantly, it is his passion to share this rich tradition with the broader public, and to guard this unique heritage for future generations of Lao people worldwide.

Using a combination of images and actual pieces, we will learn about traditional Laotian textiles, and see some examples of contemporary weaving inspired by that tradition.  There will also be some pieces available for purchase.
