Erik Risman is an avid collector of the
Turkmen rugs and trappings that are often called “Ersari/Beshir” in the
trade. For his talk, Erik Risman will address
questions such as “What is Ersari?”, and “What is Beshir?”, and share his
evolving insights into more accurate ways of categorizing these interesting
weavings. The talk will be almost
entirely based on examples from Erik’s own collection. We are fortunate to have him bring nearly 40
different pieces for us to see and compare.
Tribal rug and textile attribution is often a controversial issue, and
Erik Risman’s talk is sure to shed some additional light on this topic with
regard to these popular and interesting Turkmen weavings.
Erik Risman has been a collector for the
majority of his life. His interest in
rugs and textiles began 12-15 years ago, and he developed his focus on the
